Undergraduate Program

  1. General Competence

Bachelors of Forestry graduated from the Faculty of Forestry Universitas Gadjah Mada are expected to have a general competence as follows:

  • Mastering basic scientific and skills in the field of forestry science thus able to find, understand, explain and formulate a way of solving existing problems in the area of forestry science.

  • Able to apply knowledge and skills they had in productive activities and services to the community with the attitude and behavior according to the system of life.

  • Able to behave and react in bringing themselves to work at field of forestry or life in the society.

  • Able to follow the development of science and knowledge, and forest technology.

  1. Department Competence

a. Forest Management

Bachelor of Forestry who has a scientific basis and enough knowledge to organize a forest resource area, especially Production Forest Unity.

b. Silviculture

Bachelor of Forestry who masters a special field of Silviculture includes 4 (four) fields, which are: Silviculture, Environment manipulation, Tree Breeding, and Forest Protection.

c. Forest Products Technology

Bachelor of Forestry who masters the basics and application of forest product technology, which are: Wood Identification, Wood Structure Anatomy and Wood Fiber, Mechanic Physical and Wood Mechanical, various kinds of Forest Product management.

d. Forest Resources Conservation

Bachelor of Forestry who masters forest ecosystems, watershed management, biodiversity, natural resource management area, conservation area management and wildlife, and control the environment and tourism from forest ecosystems.    

  1. Study Load and Length

The load of the study have to be done by students to complete the Undergraduate program, in general about 144-160 credits, which is designed to be completed within 8 (eight) semesters. This load in the implementation can be completed in less 8 (eight) semesters and a maximum of 14 (fourteen) semesters. The undergraduate study load at Faculty of Forestry UGM is set at 150 credits, consisting of lectures, lab works, graduating paper and field practice, including KKN.

  1. Subjects Composition

Study materials or lessons are given in the Undergraduate program of Faculty of Forestry based on the subject's characteristics can be grouped into:

a. Personality Development Subject (MPK) is a group of study materials and lessons to develop the faithful and devoted Indonesian people to God Almighty and noble character have a steady personality and independent and have a sense of responsibility of community and nationhood.

b. Scientific and Skills Subject (MKK) is a group of study materials and lessons which are intended primarily to provide a foundation of mastery and certain skills.

c. Work Skills Subject (MKB) is a group of study materials and lessons that aims to produce experts with a wealth of knowledge and based on the basic skills mastered.

d. Work Behavior Subject (MPB) is a group of study materials and lessons that aim to shape attitudes and behaviors required by a person in the work based on the basic level of the mastered science expertise and skills.

e. Life in Society Subject (MBB) is a group of study materials and lessons that needed someone to be able to understand the rules of life in society in accordance with expertise in work.

 

Based on the organization of courses, the study materials and lessons provided on Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Forestry UGM can be further classified into compulsory and optional subjects. The compulsory subjects are divided into:

University Compulsory Subject for all Undergraduate programs in Universitas Gadjah Mada. This subject consists of national personality development subject, such as: religion, Pancasila, civic education, and community life subjects, which is Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN), one of UGM’s characteristics.

  • Compulsory Subject for all departments. This subject has to be taken by all students of all departments which is held by Faculty of Forestry. This subject consists of fundamental subjects which are science and basic skill, and forest science basic subject. The total of this subjects are 91 credits.

  • Department Compulsory Subject. This subject has to be taken for certain department and planned to established competence from the related department. This subject’s composition is differing from the competence of each department. The total of this subjects are 26-48 credits.

  • Optional Subject is a study materials and lessons which is the acquisition in accordance with the freedom of students' interests, after consulting with the academic supervisor or the thesis supervisor. Expectations of freedom in determining the composition of these optional subjects is students can design and find the competencies to be achieved. Freedom in taking the optional subjects is not only limited to the subject presented by the departments taken, but more than that; taking subjects can be cross-program and cross-faculty in the scope of the Universitas Gadjah Mada. The total of the optional subjects are between 11-13 credits.  

  1. Subjects

In general, the writing consists of Code, Subject’s Name, Credits, and Prerequisite. An offered subjects’ code at Faculty of Forestry consists of 3 letters and 3 digits with one space, for example: KTF 111. For the letters’ code, the first two letters show the Faculty identity. The third letter shows the department or special for the compulsory subject that has to be taken by students, the third letter is F means Faculty. The third letters for each course are: M, B, T, and K which means Forest Management, Silviculture, Forest Products Technology, and Forest Resources Conservation.

Three digits mean the first digit show hierarch or order of presented subject. Digit “1” means that subject is arranged to present on the first year, digit “2” for the second year, digit “3” for the fourth year. The digit in between has a double meaning. If he code is M, the digit in the middle shows the department. The digit is 1, 2, 3, and 4 as a code for Forest Management Department, Silviculture Department, Forest Products Technology Department, and Forest Resources Conservation Department. If the code is directly refer to the department, such as: KTM, so the digit in the middle is 51 representations from laboratories/ studio which present the related subject. The third digit is the sequence or number of subject in the department or laboratories/ studio.

The compulsory subject for all departments for the first year, presented by Forest management department, with the sequence subject is 1 (one).

KTM 312

Forest Management Department’s subject for the third year, presented by Forest Management Lab, with sequence number is 2 (two).

The subjects’ code which is taught by lecturers form another faculty at UGM is not always the same as that used in the Faculty of Forestry. The third letter for example, is not always F; there is also U. The codes that use 4 digits, with the third and fourth digit is a subjects’ number. Especially for subjects organized by the university are usually given a letter code UNU.
Semester credit units are usually written with 3 digits in parentheses for the last 2 digits after being separated by one space. The first digit shows the total credits of the subjects. The second digit shows the subject’s credit, whether the third digit shows the lab works’ credit.
Prerequisite of a subject designed as minimal as it can or who really become a prerequisite. Prerequisite is classified into two, namely the substance preconditions and prerequisites of time. Prerequisite substance means a subject becomes a prerequisite for subsequent subject. To be able to take subject that have substance prerequisites, the students have to pass the previous subject.  An asterisk substance prerequisite is a co-requisite, which means it can be taken at the same time but cannot preface the prerequisite, time has meaning in what year the subject is required to take, reflected by the code number of the subject, which is the first digit. Next subject lists is presented based on the status, faculty compulsory subject, department compulsory subject, optional subject. Subject which is university compulsory shall be combined in the category of faculty compulsory.
