“Reinventing Forestry Education to Address Indonesia’s Forestry Challenges in 2060”
Yogyakarta, August 17, 2025 — The Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), officially began its 62nd Anniversary series of events with a festive kick-off ceremony held at the Faculty of Forestry Auditorium. This year’s anniversary carries the theme “Reinventing Forestry Education to Address Indonesia’s Forestry Challenges in 2060,” reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening forestry education in the face of future challenges to the sustainability of forest resources.
The event was attended by the academic community of the Faculty of Forestry UGM and invited guests, including retired lecturers, faculty leaders across UGM, and heads of Technical Implementation Units (UPT) from the Ministry of Forestry in the Yogyakarta region.
The program opened with a welcoming session, followed by the singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the Gadjah Mada Hymn. The event continued with a report from the Chairperson of the Anniversary Committee, Dr. Ir. Tri Atmojo, S.Hut., M.T., IPU., who presented the lineup of activities planned for this year’s celebration.
Next, Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiadi, S.Hut., M.Agr.Sc., IPU., Secretary of the Faculty Senate, delivered a speech expressing hope that the anniversary events will proceed smoothly and successfully. He emphasized that, despite being held modestly, the celebration should remain meaningful and inspire continuous improvement — both in the faculty’s mission of education and in the management of Indonesia’s forest and natural resources.
Meanwhile, Ir. Sigit Sunarta, S.Hut., M.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., Dean of the Faculty of Forestry UGM, highlighted that this year’s anniversary is not merely a milestone to celebrate the faculty’s age but also an opportunity to reflect on its long journey in educating and advancing knowledge, as well as making a real contribution to the sustainability of Indonesia’s forests.
The event continued with a prayer led by Ir. Muhammad Navis Rofii, S.Hut., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., followed by the traditional tumpeng cutting ceremony by the Dean, accompanied by the Secretary of the Senate and the Anniversary Committee Chair. The first slice of tumpeng was symbolically given to a young lecturer, Daris Fahma Sutata, S.Hut., M.Si., as a gesture of academic regeneration and the passing of the torch to the next generation.
A significant highlight of the event was the screening of the official 62nd Anniversary Launch Video, marking the formal start of the celebration. The kick-off concluded with a group photo session with all attendees and the announcement of upcoming events that will take place throughout the year.
With this opening event, the Faculty of Forestry UGM reaffirms its commitment to advancing education, research, and community service that are relevant to ensuring the sustainability of Indonesia’s forests through 2060 and beyond.
