Research Collaboration
All foreign researchers must obtain an official permit from the Indonesian authority in advance (Govt. Regulation no. 41/ 2006 and Law No. 11/2019 article 75).
The application procedure for research permit is fully online and can be accessed through this link https://frp.ristekbrin.go.id
The procedures are the same for both international research and research internship.
Visa type
The Temporary Stay Visa Index 315 (vitas 315) is the only one which is permitted for conducting research in Indonesia.
The dependents and family members who will accompany the researcher will receive the Temporary Stay Visa Index 317 (vitas 317).

Pre-arrival procedures

The foreign researchers should submit the required documents online through the online registration system via http://frp.ristekdikti.go.id/ . If you face technical difficulty in uploading the soft file, the documents could be sent to email address: frp@ristekdikti.go.id .
The whole procedures will take approximately 9 days if the required documents are complete.

Upon the arrival in Indonesia, you also should contact your counterpart. And upon the arrival in Yogyakarta you should report the Office of International Affairs at UGM (Kantor Urusan Internasional) to complete the following steps:

2 | Report to the Office of International Affairs at UGM to ask for a a Sponsor Letter from UGM. This sponsor letter is required by local immigration office to complete the KITAS application. | https://oia.ugm.ac.id/

3 | Report to local immigration office to apply for a KITAS
Documents required for a KITAS application: a. UGM Sponsor Letter (including Warranty Statement Letter) b. Copy of Curriculum Vitae c. Copy of passport of the relevant pages d. Copy of visa/VITAS e. Copy of white landing card (departure card) f. Copy of research permit from the Ministry of National Education g. Copy of Visa Authorization h. 6 photos of 3×4 cm and 6 photos of 2×3 cm i. Completed immigration forms

4 | Report to police office to apply for an STM (Police Report) & SKLD (Self Residing Report).
Documents required for an STM & SKLD application (3 copies of each item, except the photos): a. UGM sponsor letter b. Copy of passport of the relevant pages, including the new stamp from immigration office. c. Copy of visa d. Copy of white landing card e. Copy of KITAS (yellow card from immigration office) f. Copy of ‘Buku Mutasi’ (a blue book from immigration office) g. Copy of study permit from the Ministry of National Education h. 5 color photos with red color background of 4×6 cm and 5 photos of 3×4 cm. i. Police forms that has been completed |

5 | Report to the sub district and apply for SKPPS (Surat Keterangan Pendaftaran Penduduk Sementara/Letter of Temporary Resident).
Documents required for SKPPS application: a. UGM sponsor letter b. Copy of passport of the relevant pages, including the new stamp from immigration office. c. Copy of visa d. Copy of white landing card e. Copy of KITAS (yellow card from immigration office) f. Copy of ‘Buku Mutasi’ (a blue book from immigration office) g. Copy of STM/SKLD from the police (you should also bring the original one) h. Copy of study permit from the Ministry of National Education i. 4 color background photos of 4×6 cm
