The education objectives of UGM are to produce graduates who skilled and competence in science, technology, and/or arts, and live and implement the values of Pancasila and Indonesian culture. Therefore, it is expected that UGM graduates have skills and competents in science and technology, and also have the attitudes and characters of UGM that are imbued with Pancasila and Indonesian culture. UGM Rector Decree No. 16 of 2016 concerning the Basic Framework of the UGM Curriculum stipulates that the profile of UGM graduates must have:
- future-oriented competencies and the ability on answering present and future challenges with mastery of science,
- professional attitude, skills in the profession, toughness, ethics, integrity, modesty, care, leadership and pioneering spirit, and socio-entrepreneurial spirit.
To obtain UGM character on the graduates, the Forestry Study Program at the undergraduate level on the Faculty of Forestry UGM developed an educational and learning innovation program for students to recognize forestry and environmental challenges this time and future, and to get exposure the competencies from alumni and professionals who work in forestry sector. Through this innovation program, it is hoped that the graduates, in the end, will also understand the uniqueness of forestry as a protection for life support systems and have a bond with and connection to forests and the environment. This learning innovation also become a forum for students to build their socio-entrepreneurial spirit and foresters ethics with the active involvement of students. It is proper that this program is carried out in the form of active exposure start from the early stage of forestry higher education i.e the first year students by living in the forest for a long enough duration to be able to look, get involved in and sense through learning and outdoor activities in the forest.
The role of alumni and professionals in the Outdoor Learning Program in Wanagama Educational Forest is to provide student with global competencies exposure on various forestry strategic issues at the local, regional and international levels. The exposure of global competencies (EGC) from alumni and professional are divided into:
– EGC through Enhanced Stadium General which introduce in various professions in forestry sector to the students in order to provide an understanding of the opportunities and challenges of forestry professions,
– EGC through “Outdoor Inspirational Classes” Which provide student to various forestry strategic issues at the local, regional and international levels in the current and future.
