Mangroves, fauna compositions and carbon sequestration after ten years restoration on Flores Island, Indonesia

berita penelitian dan publikasi Wednesday, 2 April 2025

Abstract
Indonesia has extensively reforested mangroves to stabilize coastal ecosystems and mitigate climate change. Reforestation’s long-term effects on recovering mangroves are not extensively established because most projects are only observed for two years. It raises the question of whether mangrove replanting aids biodiversity conservation and ecological recovery. This study will characterize Flores Island mangrove ecosystems after ten years of regeneration. read more

Preliminary Study of Fuelwood Properties in a Short- Rotation Tree, Indigofera tinctoria L., Planted in Indonesia

berita penelitian dan publikasi Tuesday, 1 April 2025

Abstract
Indigofera tinctoria L. is known to produce economically valuable indigo dye. Recently, I. tinctoria has also been considered a potential species for establishing energy plantations because this species can rapidly produce large quantities of biomass. However, knowledge about its fuelwood properties is still limited. To optimize utilization of this biomass material as a source of energy, the fuelwood properties of this species were evaluated. In addition, the read more

Social life cycle assessment of non-timber forest products in Indonesia: The case of Gum Rosin

berita penelitian dan publikasi Thursday, 6 March 2025

Abstract
Gum rosin, a distillation product of pine sap with turpentine as a co-product, is a significant non-timber forest product (NTFP) in Indonesia. This study evaluated the social sustainability of gum rosin production across four factories in Central Java during a three-year period of 2020–2022 through a Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA). The study focused on social performance and identifying social hotspots using the Subcategory Assessment Method (SAM) based read more

Growth characteristics, stress-wave velocity of stems, and radial variations of wood properties and anatomical characteristics in six-year-old Rubroshorea leprosula and R. macrophylla planted in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia

berita penelitian dan publikasi Monday, 3 March 2025

Abstract
To switch the origins of wood resources from natural to planted forests, evaluation of wood from planted trees is essential. The objective of this study is to provide the relevant wood properties promoting the utilization of wood from planted trees in the tropics. Growth characteristics (stem diameter at 1.3 m above the ground and tree height) and stress-wave velocity of stems were measured for two six-year-old red meranti species, Rubroshorea leprosula and read more

Effect of Ethephon on the Formation of Traumatic Resin Ducts in Pinus merkusii Seedlings

berita penelitian dan publikasi Monday, 3 March 2025

Abstract
Pinus merkusii shows great potential as a resin-producing wood in Indonesia, with the global demand for pine resin reaching 1 million tons annually. This study investigated the effect of ethephon on the anatomical properties of P. merkusii, particularly the resin duct that affects resin productivity, to increase the efficiency of pine resin tapping. Ethephon was mixed with Vaseline to create concentrations of 0%, 2%, 4%, and 8% and then applied to the seedlings read more

Analyzing Drought Propagation and Its Influential Factors in the Upper Nan Watershed, Thailand

berita penelitian dan publikasi Thursday, 20 February 2025

Abstract
Understanding drought propagation is essential for effective water resource management. This study employs an innovative approach to examine the transition from meteorological drought (MD) to hydrological drought (HD) in the Upper Nan Watershed (UNW), Thailand, using the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) and standardized streamflow index (SSI). Cross-wavelet transform (XWT) and Pearson’s correlation analyses reveal a significant positive read more

Publication: Aerial imagery and UAV-LiDAR data fusion for quantifying aboveground carbon stock of teak plantation

berita penelitian dan publikasi Wednesday, 5 February 2025

Abstract
This study examines four regression models to estimate tree-level above-ground carbon stock (AGC) in the clonal teak plantations of Wanagama Forest, Indonesia using a data fusion of UAV-LiDAR and RGB aerial imagery. Data collected in the field were diameter at breast height and tree height. Vegetation indices were derived from the visible bands of a georeferenced orthomosaic captured by DJI Mavic 2 Pro. The LiDAR data was obtained using GeoSun GS-100M device read more

The impact of teaching method and learning style on student engagement: a formative assessment of a primate education programme

berita penelitian dan publikasi Thursday, 30 January 2025

Abstract
We explore the impact of teaching methods and learning styles on student engagement in a conservation education program focused on primate conservation in Indonesia. Engaging students is essential for fostering environmental literacy and encouraging pro-environmental behaviours. We assessed the effectiveness of active versus didactic teaching methods and visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic learning styles in enhancing engagement. Using a formative assessment read more

Publication: The Impact of Selective Logging on the Genetic Diversity of Rubroshorea johorensis in the Tropical Rainforest

berita penelitian dan publikasi Saturday, 25 January 2025

Abstract
The tropical rainforest of Kalimantan, Indonesia, is dominated by a mixed dipterocarp forest. Rubroshorea johorensis is a commercial species of the Dipterocarpaceae family but is listed as vulnerable. So far, the management of natural forests through selective logging may have a negative impact on genetic diversity. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the genetic diversity of R. johorensis in different forest types representing the management and read more
