Closing Ceremony of the IX International Forestry Summer Course 2025 Highlights Innovation and Global Collaboration

Yogyakarta, August 26, 2025 — The IX International Forestry Summer Course (FSC) 2025, themed “The Forest Nexus: Innovation in Food, Energy, and Water Sustainability”, officially ended with a closing ceremony led by Ir. Dwiko Budi Permadi, S.Hut., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Faculty of Forestry.

Held from August 11 to 26, 2025, this two-week program brought together 36 participants from 11 countries. The program combined academic, cultural, and practical learning experiences, reflecting the growing importance of forestry in addressing global challenges related to food, energy, and water sustainability. The first week of the program (August 11–17) was conducted online, featuring academic lectures, workshops, and sharing sessions. The participants then gathered in person at the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) from August 18–26, where they engaged in group project presentations, field trips to Wanagama Forest, and cultural excursions to destinations such as Topeng Bobung Tourism Village and Kampung Coklat.

Ananto Triyogo, Ph.D as a Chairman of the FSC 2025 in his closing remarks expressed deep appreciation for the participants’ enthusiasm and dedication: “This program has not only expanded academic perspectives but also fostered collaboration across nations and cultures. We hope these connections will lead to impactful research and initiatives in the future.”

Throughout the program, participants achieved key milestones, including:

  • Enhanced academic understanding of the forest–food–energy–water nexus.
  • Strengthened international networking among paricipants, promoting long-term academic and professional collaboration.
  • Increased cross-cultural understanding and cooperation, building bridges among diverse communities.
  • Collaborative ideas for joint research and future projects.


Ir. Dwiko Budi Permadi, S.Hut., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU
, in his speech expressed appreciation and thanks to all lecturers, facilitators, and participants for supporting and joining this program. At the end, he emphasized that “it is not an end but the beginning of a new journey; together we can innovate and turn ideas into real impact for people and the planet.”

In this moment, there were the reflection remarks from participants who were represented by Mr. Sainey Janneh (Gambia) and Ms. Madiha Qadiri (India). They expressed their gratitude to the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada, for conducting this program. They appreciated the organizing committee, who raised the universal and multidisciplinary theme, which can be viewed from several perspectives, and represented the diversity of participants who came from different countries, different continents, and different fields of study. “This program was not just an academic exercise but a journey of knowing that the tree is a backbone for sustainability,” said the representative of the participant.

The closing ceremony celebrated not only the completion of the course but also the enduring friendships and partnerships forged during the program. The Forestry Summer Course continues to affirm UGM’s commitment to advancing global dialogue and solutions in forestry and sustainability.
