
Abstract
Cajuput stand development in Bojonegoro Forest Management Unit is currently the most important concern because it provides a meaningful contribution to maintain the financial stability of the company. This study aims to determine an optimum planting design for generating high cajuput productivity using an analytical hierarchy process. Eight criteria were used to facilitate the evaluation process, including site suitability, plant diversity, planting density, survival, leaf production, crop production, oil potential, and investment cost. Results found that two planting designs were used to develop cajuput plantations in Bojonegoro, i.e. pattern A (cajuput agroforestry with a spacing of 3 m × 1 m) and pattern B (cajuput agroforestry with a spacing of 5 m × 1.5 m × 1.5 m). Pattern B was more recommended to support cajuput development in Bojonegoro since it had a higher score (1.94) than pattern A (1.42). Besides resulting in a higher survival rate (93.6–96.1%), it also required a lower cost investment (2,687,694 IDR ha−1) than pattern A (3,889,903 IDR ha−1). This study concludes the use of pattern B as an optimum planting design for cajuput stand development in Bojonegoro.
